How to Choose the Right Broker in the Forex Markets

Choosing the right broker is one of the single most important decisions a trader can make before they begin trading. One must consider many different things before picking the broker that is right for them. A few things one must consider are; the spreads offered by the broker, the execution time for trades, and comfort with the trading platform. Each of these factors must play an important role in which broker the trader uses for their Forex trading.
The first thing the trader must investigate when choosing the best Forex broker is the spreads that a broker offers. Depending on the trading style and preferences of an individual trader, the level and types of spreads must be considered. For example, the trader using a scalping strategy would want to find broker that offers the narrowest spreads possible because holding onto positions for a short amount of time and taking a small nonprofit means that keeping the size of the spread as small as possible is of paramount importance. However, for a trader trading high volatility in a low liquidity environment, having wider fixed spreads as opposed to more narrow variable spreads is necessary.
Execution times for trades are also extremely important for a number of reasons. For a trader trading news breakouts where a lot of trades are being placed at one time, having an extremely fast execution time will allow the trader to get his trade in and executed earlier and, as a result, get a much better price and, in turn, make more profit. Finding a broker that has a trading desk that is close to the trader will often result in faster execution times. For a trader with a long-term trading horizon, execution times are not nearly as important as they are for a trader who is looking to get in and out of the market very quickly. The difference between making money and losing money on a short-term trade can often come down to whether or not the initial trade is executed.
Finally, comfort with the brokers trading platform can be the difference between making money and losing money. Each broker has a different trading platform with different specifics and layouts and finding which platform a trader likes best and works best on is vital. A number of things that must be considered when trying to find a trading platform but ultimately it comes down to personal preference. For example, a momentum trader is not going to be looking for the same things in a trading platform as a scalper. A momentum trader may be looking for a larger variety of technical indicators whereas the scalper may be looking for faster streaming of price information and market data.
The importance of choosing the best broker for each individual trader’s needs is one of the most important decisions a trader will ever have to make. All the trading being done moving forward will be done with that broker so being happy and having a good relationship with one’s broker is necessary in order to be a successful Forex trader.
